Literature Unplugged: Literature, Art, Music and Popular Culture Classes for children age 8 – 12 years starting July, Juhu

Introducing your child to Literature, Art, Music and Popular culture is as important as sending them to school. These classes have been specifically designed to inculcate in your children a love for all things cultural and artistic. The classes are a combination of popular culture and high culture. Each class will focus on a different aspect of Art and Culture. In one class we will explore the magical world of ‘Alice In wonderland” and in another read from the enchanted works of Pablo Neruda.

To explain further, if we dive into an important book like a “Tale of two Cities” we will end that class with a creative writing session wherein I will help explore your child’s imagination and writing skills. The day we dwell into the mystical world of theatre, all the children will come together and write a play, which I will help them enact.

We will work together to understand poetry better and even learn to write a few lines. Another significant aspect of the class is to understand and appreciate the importance of Art. I will travel through time and teach them about the different art movements and important artists while making sure they remain engaged and interested.

They will also be introduced to the exciting world of popular culture Once every two months we will visit a place of cultural significance. Maybe watch a play at Prithvi theatre or go visit the Prince of Whales Museum or Jahangir Art gallery. Whether you’re a child or an adult, the act of shaping clay can be very calming and thrilling. After some free play, the resource person will show participants how they can conceive of a form in their mind, and then realise it with their hands. Participants must bring a knife that they are familiar with using, a cutting board and an apron or at least a thick cloth or towel that they can wrap around their waists, to protect their clothes from spills.
